Goodnight San Francisco

Poem • 2026

A brief love letter to San Francisco at night, in that peculiar moment when winter arrives at sunset.

Goodnight San Francisco

Long after the sun dives into the Pacific
when the winds come in
from west to east
and the salty, eucalyptus-perfumed air
gives shape to the streetlights’ glare,
a cool gray sweater rolls in from shore
to tuck us in at night

The day’s winter had arrived.

Goodnight, San Francisco.
